SPRING FESTIVAL DAY 1

The feature race is a one mile Class 3 handicap which will see horses from leading northern yards including those of Michael Dods, Keith Dalgleish, Iain Jardine, Jim Goldie and Richard Fahey.

The meeting should also see a welcome return to Ayr for two time champion jockey Paul Hanagan who has returned to the north to ride this season and will be much in demand from a host of trainers. Come along to Scotland’s premier track to enjoy a brilliant start to the week and you may even back a few winners.

The action kicks off at 2.00 pm with a one mile two furlong handicap which should attract a large competitive field and is one of two Class 4 contests on the afternoon. The other is at 4.30 pm and is a seven furlong handicap and the racing concludes at 5.00 pm with a maiden over six furlongs

.Top northern jockeys riding this afternoon should include Graham Lee, Paul Hanagan, Tony Hamilton and Connor Beasley. First race 2pm, last race 5pm

Today sees the second running of the £50,000 Tennent’s British Stallion Studs EBF Rothesay Stakes, a Class 1 Listed Race over one mile two furlongs for fillies and mares aged four years old and upwards.

The inaugural running was won last year by the Keith Dalgleish trained Maleficent Queen who later in the season held her own in Group company.

First race 2.20 pm, last race 5.20 pm.

The opening contest is a one mile five furlong handicap for lady amateur riders and this could include some well-known jockeys in this sphere including Carol Bartley, Sarah Brotherton and Amy Waugh. The feature races are two Class 4s - a seven furlong handicap and a six furlong handicap.

The final race on the card is a mile handicap at 9.10 pm. A fun evening which should prove a popular addition to our fixture list.

Head along in time for the 5.55 pm first race – a one mile maiden - and enjoy seven races in all with the feature race at 8.25 pm a six furlong handicap which should see runners from various northern yards including those of Jim Goldie, Linda Perratt and Eric Alston. Jockeys in action are likely to include Jason Hart, Philip Makin, David Nolan and PJ McDonald. Celebrate the first Monday in June with a night at the races!

The opening contest is the EBF/Toteplacepot Available at Every Meeting Novice Stakes over six furlongs for two year-olds and trainers who specialise in this sort of race at Ayr include John Quinn, Keith Dalgleish and Mark Johnston.

The feature race due off at 4.30 pm is a five furlong handicap and some familiar horses should be contesting this while the finale at 5.00 pm is a one mile five furlong handicap where the horses will be ridden by lady amateur riders.
