A Fringe Programme of Events throughout the Charming Month of May! The Burns an’ a’ that! Festival will celebrate its sixteenth anniversary and Scotland’s Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology by showcasing some of our best Burns landmarks at events throughout South Ayrshire.

Burnsfest will take place at Rozelle Park, Ayr on Sat 6th May. This FREE family event will feature Live Music, Burns Wine Bar and Beer Garden, Pop-up Poems, A-Coo-Stick tipi, The Mercat, Performance Pokey, Burns Fair and more. Plus look out for special events taking place throughout May at landmarks such as Burns Cottage and Souter Johnnie’s Art Gallery and favourite events such as the Land o’ Burns 10k and the new Land o’ Burns Weekender!

A weekend of live music, beach rugby, fresh local food and a beer festival featuring craft beer, real ale and cider, and gin, wine and prosecco bars, all in the relaxed, welcoming environment of Ayr RFC.

It all kicks off on the Friday night with the opening party before the beach rugby, featuring some of Scotland's best men's and women's teams, gets underway on the Saturday on a specially constructed sand pitch, with the beer festival and live music running throughout the day until the closing night party. There's camping available, and families are welcome.

However, this year, we also hope to begin to use our recently restored Directors Saloon on certain days. Visit our museum, and view the garden scale model railway in operation. We also have a tea room providing teas, coffee, soft drinks and sandwiches at reasonable prices. Our shop has many items at pocket money prices to suit our younger visitors.

Kilmarnock’s Global Market returns, once again the town centre will be the place to be with international traders selling food and crafts from countries right across the globe.

Following the popularity of the new food court last year, this seated area will be back at The Cross where shoppers can take time out to relax to enjoy their delicious purchases. We will see the return of many of the most popular traders including the Dutch flowers, bratwurst grill and macaroons.

A weekend of cycling events based at Troon Scout Hall, with something for everyone from kids to serious roadies. The Saturday section of the Ayrshire Cycle Festival contains a mixture of the shorter and specialist rides and events. Family Treasure Hunt, Ladies Only ride, E-bike Only ride, Dr. Bike session, etc.

Sunday section of the Ayrshire Cycle Festival is given over to our longer distance events, three distances - 100 miles, 100km and 50km. The 100 miles and 100km rides are run on open roads but the routes will be fully signed. The 50km ride is also on open roads. Participants will be led around the route by experienced Cycling UK members. The 50km ride will be cycled at a gentle touring pace.

Dundonald Highland Games is one of Ayrshire’s premier cultural events. It is unique in capturing traditional Scottish heritage and strong community spirit within the picturesque setting of Royal Dundonald Castle. Admission to the event is completely free and offers a whole range of entertainment and activities including a traditional highland games with pipe band contest, drum majors, solo piping, highland dancing, battle re-enactment, heavy events, side stalls, massed pipe bands display and street parades.

Dundonald Games Week takes place during the week leading up to the highland games and includes a treasure hunt, 10km road race, kids’ fun run, pet show and 7-a-side football competition.

The Millport Country Music Festival is back bigger and better than ever in 2017. For the first time ever, under the cover of a huge 3,000 capacity concert venue and featuring the best of British and American country music artists including Mark Chesnutt, The Shires, Ashton Lane, David Ray, Adley Stump, Morgan Frazier and many more…

Previously started back in 1995 as the Millport Country and Western Weekend. 22 years on the festival has gone from strength to strength, featuring country bands from all over the UK to become one of the most popular on the West Coast of Scotland, and one of the biggest Country Music festivals in Scotland. This year we are going bigger still…

The addition of a huge 3,000 capacity concert marquee that will host international country stars such as Mark Chesnutt, The Shires, Adley Stump, David Ray, Morgan Frazier and Ashton Lane will add to the fun and excitement of the adjacent core festival within the grounds of the Garrison House and local venues. The grand parade, line-dancing, shootout competitions, funfair, hot dog eating competitions… there is lots going on over the whole weekend.

Scotland's biggest outdoor event of the year. The Scottish International Airshow will take place at Ayr on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd September. Full 2 day flying programme and massive ground exhibitions, rides and fun family events

Saturday will feature the historic Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane) plus many other display aircraft. Sunday highlight will be the Red Arrows display team plus many others.

Two engines in steam today ! Enjoy the thrill of taking a short trip in our brakevan hauled by one of our working steam locomotives along a section of the Dalmellington Iron Company's main line. Plus view our highly unusual fireless steam locomotive working. View our extensive collection of steam and diesel locomotives and other rolling stock. Visit our museum with railway memorabilia and photographs from a bygone era; view our working model steam railway.

Our shop carries a number of items at pocket money prices especially for our younger visitors. Whilst the Cafe serves teas, coffee, soft drinks, sandwiches and confectionery, etc, all day during Steam Days. The site is wheelchair friendly. Free Car Park.

Ayrshire boasts some fantastic festivals and outdoor events, from Burns an A That in May, Ayr Flower Show and Marymass Festival in August, and Septembayr Ayr's Own Festival the list is endless.

There are also travelling events such as the funfair and the circus.

Not to mention the many Ayrshire Gala days and Highland games. Fingers crossed for some good weather this year!
